Description
Cuban intellectual Eliades Acosta examines the rise of fascism in 1930s Europe and the massive anti-fascist movements and cultural conferences organized to defeat it. He invokes Prometheus as the “savior” of human civilization to describe the role of culture, in its broadest sense, in defending humanity from fascism.
About the Author
Eliades Acosta is a professor of philosophy in Santiago and the director of the José Martí National Library of Cuba. He founded the Santiago Cultural Center, a gathering place for Cuban intellectuals. He has toured the United States on several occasions, notably visiting the University of California (Berkeley).
