Description
Khosrow Hassanzadeh’s rich, colorful, and uncompromising oeuvre has made him one of Iran’s leading contemporary artists. Working primarily with photography, collage, painting, and mixed media, he unflinchingly examines harsh political realities by treating subjects such as the Iran-Iraq war, murdered prostitutes, and women in chadors. Includes essays by leading scholars and critics contextualizing his work. Published in association with KIT Tropenmuseum.
Khosrow Hassanzadeh has had solo shows in Amsterdam, Beirut, Dubai, London, Phnom Penh, and Tehran.
Mirjam Shatanawi is curator of the Middle East and North African collections at the Tropenmuseum.

About the Authors
Khosrow Hassanzadeh, who was raised in an average family outside of intellectual circles, is perhaps better known among art enthusiasts in Europe and the United States rather than in Iran due to various exhibits of his work outside of the country. Mirjam Shatanawi is curator of Middle East and North Africa at the Tropenmuseum.
