Description

Written as an intriguing and accessible textbook for courses on gender, sociology, and sexuality, author Rebecca Plante’s Sexualities in Context presents a broad overview of the socio-cultural elements of sexualities. Plante’s summary of the contexts of sex and sexual behaviors/identities is both intelligent and readable. With helpful anecdotes and examples of the social construction of sex and gender roles, students are empowered to think outside their comfort zones and encouraged to explore the topic of sex in a new context. With eminently readable language and useful pedagogical features like end-of-chapter questions, suggested projects, and suggested further readings, Sexualities in Context is the ideal textbook to help students recognize sex as not only a personal issue, but a socially-constructed issue as well.
